This shows the before and after treatment for pythiosis. This was a successful case, which is rare. White arrows point to the classic “kunkers” seen with pythiosis. Despite agrressvie surgical resection this case was too severe to have a successful outcome.This was a lucky horse that developed Pythium inside the oral cavity. Luckily the owners and referring veterinarian noticed the wound inside the mouth that was causing this large outward swelling and referred to UF for treatment. The picture on the right was taken during surgery where the diseased tissue was able to be removed entirely allowing her to have a successful outcome. She is back living the retired life at home now.
