Food Animal Reproduction and Medicine (FARMS)

Faculty and house officers in FARMS deliver healthcare and consulting services to these vital sectors of the food supply chain while providing on-farm teaching of veterinary students.

Services Offered

FARMS provides a full range of services for dairy cattle, beef cattle, swine, and small ruminants as well as phone and on-farm consultant services for referring veterinarians. Field services provided include:

Dairy Cattle

  • Disease management and outbreak investigations
  • Training for staff and management teams
  • Reproductive management (synchronization programs and artificial Insemination)
  • Pregnancy diagnosis (manual palpation and ultrasonography)
  • Infertility evaluation (bulls and cows)
  • Breeding soundness examination
  • Obstetrics

  • Field surgery
  • Milk quality and udder health monitoring and investigation
  • Welfare evaluations
  • Heifer rearing management and health programs
  • Vaccination programs for youngstock and adult cattle
  • Health certificates and regulatory testing
