One of the UF Large Animal Hospital’s biggest strengths is the large number of services and board-certified veterinary specialists all working together. When you schedule an appointment with our client liaisons, you will be seen by veterinarians in their area of specialty based on your animal’s needs.

A referral to the University of Florida Large Animal Hospital can be made by your veterinarian but is not required to be seen by one of our clinicians.
If you schedule your appointment and are not able to keep it, please contact the scheduling staff as soon as possible so that we may offer that time slot to another client. We understand that there are often difficulties in transporting large animals so if you are going to arrive late, please contact the scheduling staff to let them know you are delayed.
What to expect at your appointment
The goal of the UF Large Animal Hospital is the provide world-class patient care and exemplary client communication. Every patient is managed by a board-certified specialist assisted by one or more residents who are veterinarians with one to four years of experience undergoing advanced training in that specialty. Additionally, we have trained veterinary technicians that assist in the delivery of patient care 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Third and fourth-year veterinary students will observe and participate to varying degrees in patient care under the direct supervision of a veterinarian. View the UF Large Animal Hospital FAQs for more information.
The veterinarians at UF treat equine and large animal patients from the Gainesville, Ocala and Jacksonville areas, including Alachua and Marion Counties in Florida, and our clients come from all over the United States.
